Four rules. Shorter than your lease.
The four pickup rules
-
Before the window
Container goes out
At your door before your community's collection window opens (your office has the exact time), lidded, trash bagged inside. Recycling in the blue container if your community has it.
-
Your window
We do the trash part
On your community's service nights. You don't need to be home. Every door is logged. Exceptions and service issues are photographed and timestamped.
-
Next morning
Container back in. It lives with you.
Bring the empty container inside the next morning, by the time your community sets, so breezeways stay clear. Containers left out are noted for the office.
-
Never
What we can't take, even if you ask nicely
No loose trash, no liquids, no bags over your community's weight limit. Those get flagged, not collected. It keeps the route on time for everyone.
Set out on time and the crew skipped you? Report a missed pickup or text us, and it is made right within 24 hours at no charge.
Good questions
Asked by residents. Answered by the trash people.
What can I put out, and what won't the crew take?
Household trash, bagged, inside your lidded container at the door. Recycling goes in the blue container if your community has doorstep recycling. The crew won't take loose trash, liquids or bags over your community's weight limit: those are flagged, not collected. Not sure about paint, batteries, propane, sharps, broken glass, electronics or renovation debris? Ask your leasing office, or call (512) 866-6695 or text us, before it goes out. Anything outside the rules stays at the door, and it doesn't count as a missed pickup.
Why was my trash left behind?
The crew logs every door, and trash stays behind for one of a few reasons: it wasn't out when the crew reached your door, the container wasn't at the door or the crew couldn't reach it, the trash was loose or had liquids in it, or a bag was over your community's weight limit. Exceptions are photographed and timestamped, so the report your property gets by morning shows which it was, and none of these is a missed pickup. Fix what was flagged and set it out on your next service night. If you set out on time, at the door, by the rules, and the crew still skipped you, report a missed pickup. Every miss is made right within 24 hours at no charge: collected on the next service night, and if that is more than 24 hours away, such as before a weekend or holiday break in service, the crew comes back within 24 hours.
Is there a weight limit, and what about cat litter or extra bags?
Yes. Your community sets it, and your leasing office has the number, so split heavy loads such as cat litter across bags. Everything goes bagged inside your lidded container, pet waste and litter included, because loose trash is flagged, not collected. If you have more than fits, ask your leasing office how your community handles extra bags before you set any out beside the container.
Can I put out recycling, and what can go in it?
Only if your community has doorstep recycling, which the property adds to its service. Where it does, recycling goes in the blue container at your door and is collected on the same route as your trash. Your leasing office can tell you which nights it goes out and what your community accepts. It is single-stream, so accepted recyclables go in together with no sorting. Keep trash and liquids out of the blue container: recycling that has them can be tagged for contamination.
What do I do with furniture, big boxes and move-out junk?
Not at your door. Doorstep pickup takes bagged trash that fits in your container and stays under your community's weight limit, so furniture, mattresses and move-out piles left in the breezeway are not part of nightly pickup and the crew leaves them. Ask your leasing office how your community handles large items: some properties add RPMTX bulk pickup, which the office schedules. For boxes, break them down flat and ask your leasing office where they go.
Do you collect food scraps for composting?
Where your community offers it. Austin multifamily properties with 5+ units have recycling and composting requirements under the Universal Recycling Ordinance, and where RPMTX helps with organics collection, it is at your door or at a hub on the property. Your leasing office can tell you which. Follow your community's organics signage for what goes in and how to bag it, and keep food scraps out of the blue recycling container.
My container is missing or broken, or I just moved in. How do I get one?
Start with your leasing office, or call (512) 866-6695 or text us. RPMTX supplies a lidded container for every unit and replaces them as they wear, and new leases get a move-in kit.
Is there service on holidays, and what do I do with my trash that night?
Service nights are set per property, so ask your leasing office about your community's schedule around holidays. If there is no service on a given night, keep your trash inside until the next service night. A night with no scheduled service isn't a miss. Every miss is made right within 24 hours at no charge: collected on the next service night, and if that is more than 24 hours away, such as before a weekend or holiday break in service, the crew comes back within 24 hours. That applies when you set out on time, at the door, where the crew could reach it.
Do you still come in bad weather?
Set out as usual unless your leasing office tells you otherwise. Keep everything bagged and the lid closed, so rain and wind don't turn it into loose trash, which the crew flags rather than collects. If a service night is ever called off for severe weather, hold your trash inside until the next service night.
How do I reach you, and when is someone available?
Call (512) 866-6695 or text us. The office is open Monday to Friday, 9 to 5 Central. You can report a missed pickup online at any time. Feedback about a crew, good or bad, goes to the same number. Questions about your community's fee, lease terms or service nights go to your leasing office, because the property sets those.
